Earlier this month, Redwood Shores, California enterprise database technology firm Oracle launched full-scale cloud regions at customer data centres.
By exclusively dedicating a few racks at an on-premise data centre, customers can use the new solution from Oracle to make their servers function as a public cloud region. This will help large enterprises to comply with any data residency requirement, which is increasingly becoming common across the world, especially in industries such as banking or public sector.
In an interview with TechCircle, Vinay Kumar, who is a senior vice president at North America cloud engineering at Oracle said that enterprises with deep pockets remain the largest drivers of public cloud growth. These organisations prefer to keep some applications private due to data security reasons as well as to reduce latency.
Kumar said that this offering acts as a segue to hybrid cloud adoption for large enterprises and works seamlessly across third-party apps deployed at the other racks at the customer data centre The solution requires a minimum commitment of $6 million from customers annually.
Kumar has close to 18 years of industry experience and has worked at EMC, Akamai Technologies and Amazon Web Services, where he worked as a product manager. Kumar holds an engineering degree in electronics and communications and has done his MBA from Babson College in Massachusetts.
