Amitabh Chaudhry, the current managing director and CEO of Axis Bank, took charge of the Mumbai based private sector lender with a mandate to undertake a multi-year digital transformation programme.
He started his career with Bank of America in 1987 and held multiple roles such as head of technology investment for Asia, regional finance head for wholesale banking and chief finance officer. Prior to Axis Bank, he was the head of HDFC Life and undertook its digital transformation initiatives for the private sector life insurance firm.

Axis Bank has strengthened its capabilities across its subsidiaries over the last two years, while also focusing on digital transformation, an omni-channel approach as well as beefing up senior management teams, and widening the reach of its distribution.
At the recently concluded Mint-TechCircle Business Transformation Symposium, Chaudhry spoke about how the pandemic accelerated, and to an extent changed the landscape of how banking works in the country. From virtual relationship managers, completely offline employees, permanent work from home situations and a higher part-time employee count, the scope of how banking used to function has undergone a fundamental shift.
