Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company's supercharging station at Santa Monica will accept Dogecoin cryptocurrency as a mode of payment.
Once that happens, it will become the first charging station in Tesla's network to accept the crypto as a payment method.
However, he has not clarified if this payment option will be extended to the company's other charging points as well.

“And futuristic diner / drive-in theater planned for Hollywood area! Of course, you can pay in Doge (sic)," said Musk in response to a tweet by Ryan Zohoury, the founder of Tesla Console, who claimed that the Santa Monica Superchargers got full only after 10 minutes of its opening.
Being an avid supporter of cryptocurrencies, he has started accepting payments in cryptocurrencies against the sale of Tesla merchandise on a pilot basis. However, the company has not started accepting cryptocurrencies for its electric vehicles.
“Tesla will make some merch buyable with Doge & see how it goes,” Musk said in a tweet on 14th December, 2021.

“Tesla only accepts Dogecoin. Tesla cannot receive or detect any other digital assets. Ensure you are making your purchase with Dogecoin. Sending any other digital assets may result in the assets being lost or destroyed. Non-Dogecoin digital assets sent to Tesla will not be returned to the purchaser,” Tesla mentions on its official website in the FAQ section.
Earlier, Musk went to the extent of urging Mcdonalds to accept ‘Dogecoin’ as one of the modes of payment. In a tweet, he had mentioned he would eat a Happy Meal on TV if Fast food giant McDonald’s starts accepting Dogecoin.
Last year, this token gained a lot of currency and even became the 10th largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalisation.
